The Amazon FNSKU Barcode Guide
Seller-specific inventory tracking. Learn the structural requirements for the barcodes that power the world's largest fulfillment network.

What is an FNSKU?
FNSKU stands for Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit. It is a highly specific, proprietary identifier used exclusively by Amazon to track products within their fulfillment centers (FBA).
Unlike a standard UPC, which identifies a generic product type across all retail channels, an FNSKU identifies the specific physical unit as belonging to a specific third-party seller. This prevents "commingling" of inventory, ensuring that if you send in authentic products, your customers don't accidentally receive counterfeit items sent to the warehouse by a malicious competitor.
Structural Anatomy
Every FNSKU barcode follows a strict technical and visual standard dictated by Amazon compliance rules:
- Symbology: Amazon strictly requires the use of the Code 128 linear symbology. Code 128 is highly dense and supports the alphanumeric characters required by FNSKUs.
- The X00 Prefix: Almost all FNSKUs begin with the "X00" prefix, which acts as a flag to indicate it is a merchant-labeled item requiring specific seller routing.
- Length: Typically 10 characters long, containing a unique mix of capital letters and digits generated by Seller Central.
- Quiet Zone: Amazon requires a significant blank white space (Quiet Zone) on the left and right of the barcode to ensure rapid robotic scannability on conveyor belts.
Strict Labeling Requirements
Amazon FBA labels must be printed in crisp black ink on white, non-reflective paper with removable adhesive. Each individual label must also include the product's exact title and condition (e.g., "New") in human-readable text directly below or above the barcode.
